The Knack

"Ooh my little pretty one, pretty one.
When you gonna give me some time, Sharona?"

There's not much I remember doing in 1979, but for some reason I still remember walking down the street hearing My Sharona for the first time. The tune was blasting from some guy's hot rod still vivid in my memory. There was something about that song and the Get The Knack album that was so addicting. I bought the tape right away and proceeded to wear it out in short time.

Singer Doug Fieger's vocals and Bruce Gary's (R.I.P.) drumming were what made The Knack great in my opinion. Other members included Berton Averre on lead guitar and Prescott Niles on bass. Most songs were written by Fieger/Averre. Together they are a great band who never had to rely on synthesizers to create good old rock & roll.

Other Knack songs on GTK include Good Girls Don't, Heartbeat, Let Me Out, Oh Tara, Your Number Or Your Name, Maybe Tonight and Frustrated. The whole album is classic. The next recording came out 8 months later entitled, But the Little Girls Understand. The main hit was supposed to be Baby Talks Dirty, which isn't bad but personally i liked the songs I Want Ya and It's You. Other songs were Can't Put A Price On Love and Tell Me You're Mine.

Before The Knack broke up they released Round Trip which wasn't a big radio album but a lot of people seem to like it regardless. Other albums such as Serious Fun were released in the 90's after reuniting.

"oh i got the whole control
oh she got the savage soul
oh it's only rock and roll"

"Good girls don't
Good girls don't
But she'll be tellin' you
Good girls don't, but I do"
